Overactive bladder. Ways to help one to control an over active bladder?
I'm just curious, because I haven't had an overactive bladder... can you say more about what happens and how you've tried to treat it? Sounds like a problem for so many reasons I can think of.
Hey @Sarah Doyle -- Not sure how into natural medicine you are, but mullein root can help strengthen the bladder and is often used for incontinence whether it's related to stress, pregnancy, menopause, or even multiple sclerosis (MS).
You may have actually seen mullein before, as it's a pretty common plant!
If you have an herbal store near you, they're very likely to carry a few brands/options of mullein tinctures, which you can take the liquid straight from the dropper or mixed with water or juice. However, keep in mind that tinctures are almost always alcohol-based so they're not the right choice for children, sober people, pregnant women, or those who have particularly sensitive stomachs.
What do you think? Would you consider trying mullein for your bladder?
I have tried many medicines haven't worked. I will try anything at this point.
Sounds good. I will try and find a herbal store. Thanks so much.
My stress urinary incontinence was taken care of with a bladder sling but I do have OAB I am going Feb 24 to a pelvic floor physical therapist hopefully it will help my OAB and prolapsed rectum
Hi all- as a survivor of multiple cancers, I have noticed that oncologist offices have big warnings about not using any herbal remedies without consulting the doctor because it can interact in many ways with various treatments. The recommendation above might be very effective, but it's always worth checking with your doctor.
Thanks for the information.
Hi @waldren -- let us know how it goes tomorrow!
Beebop1286 I will let you all know what happens
I went to pelvic floor physical therapy only to find out they did not take my insurance so now I have to wait on my urogynecologist to refer me to another facility that takes my insurance so to be continued
@waldren How frustrating! I'm sorry your efforts were thwarted today! I hope you get your next referral pretty quickly 🤞
All I have to do is wait for them to call me to set up appt the new one takes my ins
Meanwhile, you want. I agree with @BeeBop1286 -- this must be really frustrating. Fingers crossed for you.
Great point @CindyT! Yes, please do check with a medical provider before starting any herbal remedies, @Sarah Doyle.
I wonder if overactive bladder and painful bladder syndrome are two different things, but I wanted to share that I was experiencing both and kept thinking I had a UTI and to make it more confusing, sometimes I did! The doctor said I seemed highly motivated and although this is a problem she said that wasn't really curable, I might try the recommended diet for things to avoid. I can't remember the foods, now probably spicy and caffeine etc but it all quieted down. I relaxed because it wasn't a UTI and later after a couple of maybe UTI's a good friend suggested I start D Mannose. I have been taking this supplement religiously for 6 months and so far, no outbreaks.
I have had an interstim implanted to help with my OAB and urge and stress incontinence it is doing wonders my urogynecologist recommended it if you have any questions please feel free to ask
