Hi @Barbara1963 - my heart exploded when I saw your post. It can be SO hard! I hope you're kind to yourself and you praise yourself for taking this step... reaching out to a community. Sending good vibes your way. Small steps.
I really need Help.
I am so tired of being heavy 😪
Hi @Barbara1963 as long as you're around, it's not too late to make changes. Taking control is not easy. Life is not easy! What kinds of things have helped you make big changes in the past?
Hey @Barbara1963 I'm a 41-year-old guy... was 60 lbs overweight (probably more) and now am 40lbs overweight. Taking a LONG time, but each month I carve off just a tiny bit more. One big thing I did is I stopped eating so much sugar, specially dessert. Lots of meals without dessert now. Not all the time. And I'm moving slowly. But making one small change made a big difference. Trying to keep it up.
Hi @Barbara1963 I've struggled with my weight all of my life, and I know how hard it is to lose and to keep the pounds off. My weight varies a lot. I've tried lots of different approaches and the ones that have worked best for me were when I had a weight loss buddy and we tried to keep each other on track.
One in three people has the same problem, so you aren't alone. Have you connected with others who are facing the same challenge, to support each other in your goals? A friend recently mentioned Noom.com to me, has anyone out there tried that? Is it expensive?
I have alot of health issues including thyroid issues but one minute I gain then lose like crazy don't know what's going on.
Hi @Denay M Johnson are you noticing that the changes come at the same time as anything else in your life: sleep, diet, stress?
Hi Barbara: I understand completely. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease along with a whole bunch of other things...and found my way through it. I won't lie to you - it's a journey. I too struggle with my weight, and despite a sugar free gluten free dairy free diet, I'm stuck after the first 20 lbs came off. I have more to go to feel great (me looking at me) and I know it's discouraging. What I learned in my case, because I was under so much stress, even with the medication my thyroid wasn't coming back up because my cortisol levels were so high, anything my thyroid tried to do was kicked back by the cortisol level. I never smiled. I was trudging through life. Please consider looking into your stress level and asking for bloodwork to look at your cortisol?
@AngelWhoCares, that's really amazing that you were able to realize that you weren't smiling. Thank you for sharing that moment of personal insight!
@Barbara1963, when you say your immune system doesn't work right, what do you mean?
Hi Barbara: I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you. 25 years ago I was bit by my cat. It caused a landslide of issues including an infection throughout my whole digestive track. Although I eventually recovered from it, my doctor told me it could some day show up again and it might be in another way. It started slow, my digestive system wasn't right and I compounded it with out of control stress (my cortisol levels). I ended up with my immune system shutting down, simply because it couldn't keep up with the fight, chasing symptoms to deal with and how, only to cause other things to go awry. The right provider got me on the right track, but the work was really on me - a very controlled diet that let my body work better, which slowly improved my outlook, giving me the hope I needed that I could over come what was going on. I hope this helps.
