Advice on ways to cut sugar cravings?
@Smokey, happy Wednesday! Are you asking about substitutes when you are facing a sugar craving? Or are you asking about ways to reduce the feeling of cravings overall?
@Smokey Hey there! I've been living with type 2 diabetes for over 20 years now-and for me, personally, when the cravings hit, I have 2 ways I move through them. I either find an adequate substitute (for example, if I want ice cream, I may choose a low carb ice cream bar), OR I have whatever it is that I'm craving. Just in a smaller portion, and of course not every day. For me-if I completely restrict all the things I enjoy, I will eventually go on a bender, and the yo-yo cycle begins. What foods are you struggling with in particular? Maybe we can help find a substitute :)
@Smokey Cravings can be so hard... and it becomes practically the only thing you can think about! (which is amazing, because when you're not thinking about it, where did it go?. For some things I crave, I sometimes use a 2 minute technique, where I make myself do something for 2 minutes and then see if the craving has changed. I'm learning meditation, so sometimes I try that. But mostly I just go for a 2 minute walk outside, or start to knit for 2 minutes, or fold laundry. The walk is a good one, 'cause it always turns into more, and I feel kind of proud (!) when I realize what I avoided. But I only committed to 2 minutes. I don't know if anyone else has ever done anything like that. Works for me.
@HashimotoMom I love that technique! :)
